Program Introduction: The D4C Mentoring Program connects designers and professionals across disciplines to engage in impactful community projects. Launched in 2018 in partnership with Di-Lab at the American University of Beirut, the program aims to cultivate a new generation of socially responsible architects who will shape the future of the built environment.
Program Objectives: The program directly addresses challenges in Lebanon’s architecture and engineering sectors, such as limited job opportunities and the neglect of community needs in construction projects. Participants develop innovative, low-tech solutions for sustainable development, enhancing the well-being of vulnerable households in response to humanitarian needs.
Program Achievements: To date, D4C has developed nine community-based design courses, graduated 60 young professionals, expanded its outreach to major Lebanese universities—including AUB, LAU, NDU, Phoenicia University, and ALBA, constructed 12 communal spaces, and achieved an 80% job placement rate for graduates.
Design Workshops: The design workshops aim to expose and inspire students to engage in community-based design. Students learn through practical, hands-on projects that encourage them to develop sustainable and impactful design solutions for local communities.
Mentoring Program: The mentoring program educates and trains fresh graduates and young professionals. Participants gain hands-on experience through mentorship and civic engagement, developing practical skills essential for tackling real-world challenges.
Architectural Design: Practice
The architectural design practice employs professionals to implement community-based projects. These projects aim to improve the living conditions and quality of life for marginalized communities across Lebanon.
